Scrap Metal Prices
Competitive scrap metal prices for Atherton and the surrounding areas.

UK Scrap Metal Prices
Here at Kas Metal Trading, our pricing strategy allows us to offer some of the best, fairest, and most competitive scrap metal prices on the market. This is all thanks to us basing both our ferrous and non-ferrous metal prices on the world centre for industrial metal hedging, trading and pricing, the London Metal Exchange (LME).
Our local scrap metal recycling yard is based in Atherton, allowing us to also service those located in and around the Greater Manchester and Lancashire areas, including (but not limited to) Wigan, Bolton, Chorley, Preston, Leigh, Tyldesley, Salford and Westhoughton.
How Does the London Metal Exchange Work?
Combining the physical industry with the financial community, the LME creates a stronger, more controlled market. This means there will always be a buyer and a seller, a standardised price and the choice to transfer or take on risk, 24/7. LME non-ferrous contract users can transfer or take on risk against metal prices daily out to 3 months, weekly out to 6 months, or monthly out to anything up to 123 months, or 10+ years in the future.
Ensuring fairness and transparency, the LME operates within a well-defined governance in order to effectively regulate the scrap metal trading environment. Fulfilling their vital responsibilities, they also regularly enforce new rules to ensure that any metal transactions delivered against LME contracts are responsibly sourced.
Designed with scrap metal merchants, buyers and traders in mind, physical LME non-ferrous contracts reflect the nature and timing of bilaterally negotiated metal trades. Meaning, our LME-based scrap metal prices fluctuate in line with the current supply and demand within the scrap metal market. So, you can rest assured you’re always receiving the best price possible for your scrap metal.

What Determines Scrap Metal Prices?
- Supply and demand
- Metal type
- Metal grade
- Scrap yard location
- Quantity of scrap metal
- Ferrous vs non-ferrous

How Does Grading Affect Scrap Metal Prices?
Mixed, oxidised, rusted, alloyed or contaminated scrap metal grades will generally leave you seeing a slightly lower number on your weigh-in ticket at the local scrap yard. But, you shouldn’t let this put you off!
Here at the Kas Metal scrap yard, we accept oxidised copper and brass, as long as the oxidation is not excessive, and you may still be able to get a decent price for your scrap metal if you can manage to clean any rust or impurities off before your visit!

Does Quantity Affect Scrap Metal Prices?
If you have a larger quantity of scrap metal available to sell to us, you are likely to receive a higher price.
This is because the more scrap metal you have, the higher your overall price per kilogram or tonne will be. This is especially the case if you are selling non-ferrous metals that are in high-demand, such as copper or aluminium.
